Thomas Tuchel, Pep Guardiola, and Roberto Mancini have been shortlisted for the honor of men’s coach of the year at the FIFA Best awards, the global football governing body said Thursday.
The 48-year-old Tuchel turned around the fortunes of Chelsea after being appointed in January and led the Londoners to a second Champions League victory in May.
Manchester City was defeated 1-0 in the final but Guardiola, 50, is on the list after delivering a brilliant Premier League title.
Mancini, 57, meanwhile, is a contender for winning only the second continental crown for Italy at the delayed Euro 2020 held last June and July.
Tuchel won the UEFA award as the best coach in season 2020/21, beating Mancini and Guardiola in the final reckoning.
Lluis Cortes (Barcelona), Emma Hayes (Chelsea), and Sarina Wiegman (Netherlands/England) are the final three candidates for best women’s coach.
The best men’s and women’s players’ will be announced on Friday, with the award ceremony set for January 17 as part of a TV show in Zurich.
